Selectmen Meeting Minutes – December 10th, 2008
PRESENT:

Volunteer Fire Department Treasurer: Patrick Webb
The Selectmen began their normally scheduled meeting by reviewing correspondence and paying bills from the previous week.
2009 Cemetery Committee Budget: The Selectmen met with Cemetery Committee Chairwoman, Mary Dodge, to discuss the financial needs of the cemetery for the 2009 budget. The committee presented formal expenses for 2008 of $6,362.50, against the town’s budget of $5,000.00. Additional monies, over the towns contribution of $5,000.00 were paid out of the cemetery savings account. Mrs. Dodge stated that the biggest expense for the cemetery in 2008 was mowing. Some repair to damaged headstones was also undertaken this year. Mrs. Dodge acknowledged the contribution of Cliff and Sally Boivin, who covered the expense of engraving on the Landaff Center Cemetery stone. Mr. Dodge also donated a great deal of his own personal time. The Committee is asking for a town contribution of $6,500.00 for 2009 budget needs. Additional discussion was also had with regard to: 1) having the town hearse appraised and insured; 2) staining the cemetery building; and 3) introducing a warrant article to cover the cost of fencing in the cemetery.
2009 Volunteer Fire Department Budget: Patrick Webb, Treasurer to the Landaff Volunteer Fire Department, met with the Selectmen to present an overview of the fire department’s expenses for 2008. Mr. Webb reported that the fire department has seen the addition of 4 new volunteers in the past year. The department is asking for level funding of $13,000.00 for 2009 budget needs.
2009 Planning Board Budget: Mr. Webb, in his capacity as Chairman of the Planning Board, spoke with the Selectmen regarding budget needs for 2009. It was decided that the planning board will be level funded at $3,000.00 for the upcoming year.
Highway Department: Town Road agent, Wayne Mardin, met with the Selectmen to discuss road issues. He reported that he has ordered a new main hydraulic pump for the grader to replace the broken one. Additionally, discussion was had regarding a mandate received from the Department of Transportation, ordering the town to place proper signage on town bridges.
Driveway Permit: The Selectmen reviewed a copy of a driveway permit issued by the State to Presby Construction for property they recently purchased on Route 302.

Wednesday, December 24, 2008 (CHRISTMAS EVE): No Selectmen’s Meeting.
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 (NEW YEAR’S EVE): No Selectmen’s Meeting. This meeting has been moved to Tuesday, December 30, 2008 to accommodate those that may have plans for New Year’s Eve.
